Modern marketing and digital media go hand in hand. This being the case it is important that not only your website is friendly for your customers and prospects to use but it needs to be properly optimized. On-page, optimization is the foundation to all of your search engine optimization.

Your website is your main impression for your prospects for your community. This is usually your first opportunity to gain their trust and to let them get to know you. The main goal is to make the excited enough and comfortable enough to call for a tour.

Make sure your website loads quickly, is mobile friendly, and use Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). Visitors abandon slow sites which increase the bounce rate and has a negative effect on the algorithm.

Visitors to your site immediately begin judging your community’s quality, organization, reliability, and trustworthiness. A user-friendly experience on your website is a big factor in forming their opinion of your community.

Have your web developer use Word Press as the CRM for your website. It is very easy to work with and has many plugins that work well for SEO (search engine optimization). Word Press eliminates the need for a well-coded back-end. A great back-end is a difference between a site that can be maintained and expanded for years to come, and a site that needs to be completely rebuilt in a year or two.

Makes it easy for your visitors to find what they are looking for quickly. Your site’s navigation should be simple, internally consistent, and intuitive.

Make sure it is mobile friendly, not designed just for a laptop or desktop computer. More people are using smartphones and tablets so make sure your site is compatible. Make sure your site is optimized for people using the internet via a smartphone or tablet.

Content is King

Back in the day, you used to be able to stuff keywords on your page and rank well. Times have changed and the algorithms now look for rich useful content. Good solid information that is useful for website visitors is what Google wants to see.

You need to regularly publish content including blog posts, videos, podcasts, and infographics. Make sure these are unique and well produced. Search engines concentrate on what the searches intention is and the keywords do not need to be overused but used and place correctly in your content. Logical and quality information should be what your content consists of.

Google and other search engines want longer written content but keep in mind users don’t want content to long. It is normally ideal to have 850 to 2,000 words in your content with links to other posts for more in-depth information. Google loves that.

Interlinking your content to other pages on your website is vital. This allows for easier site navigation from your visitors and has Google crawling more of your pages. Interlinking is linking one web page to another web page like if I refer back to my homepage or to the first post in this series. These are examples of what should be done throughout your pages and posts. Also linking out to other Google properties like YouTube helps. Another great way to encourage more crawling to your internet properties is to add links directly onto your YouTube header. This is a great way to increase ranking by having powerful websites linking to your YouTube Channel which Google crawls and in those link other Google properties like Google +, Blogspot, etc.

To produce great content ask yourself if you would trust it as a visitor.

Does it read like it is written by an expert in the industry?

Make sure the grammar and spelling are correct, for this I use Grammarly.

Make sure the content is original and you can check that using Copyscape if you are hiring people to write your content.

Make sure the information you provide is as good as or better than your competitions who appear in the search results.

Give the reader what he is looking for with accurate and compelling information. Think about what questions the searches is asking and answer them correctly and in detail. If needed link out to other posts that go more in depth. Establish yourself as the authority in your industry.

Encourage your readers to add you on their social media and to subscribe to your YouTube Channel. Video marketing is a great way for you to get your audience to come to know, like, and trust you.

Make it easy for the search engines to find you by structuring your site correctly. There is a lot of thought that you need to put into what URL you use for each page and post. This is most affected by the structure of your website.

Make sure you also write your meta description correctly. Often you will find out that it is cheaper to use an SEO professional to do these things for you. Over optimizing and under optimizing are killers. Especially over optimizing because some problems just can’t be fixed.

Last but not least, constantly be adding to your website. Making changes. Adding email capture to grow an email list. Call to action buttons for monthly promotions. Progress over perfection and with time it will be perfect.

I am a digital marketer that got my start marketing my restaurant businesses in Costa Rica and San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
