Boost Your SEO Using Social Media

In 2006 before I ever heard of Facebook or Twitter I began using Social Media to market my new business. I moved to COsta Rica September of 2005 and was already a member of a Yahoo Group named Costa Rica Living and joined a local forum where many of the local bookmakers hung out online. These two places were very active and a great source for information. I began a food delivery business with my brother and announced a free give away of 4 meatball sandwiches which later was named the Tony Soprano and the names of the sandwiches became part of our schtick. In this venture, we became known as The Sandwich Guys which eight months later lead to us opening the Time Out Tavern in Escazu Costa Rica. The San Jose areas first true American Sports Bar where we hit the ground running due to the hundreds of customers we had gained through Social Media.

We interacted with these customers, who soon became our friends, on a daily basis and not just promoting our business. We interacted with sports, political and local conversation. Our popularity even included people writing about us in their blogs. We developed friendships and haters that still last to this day even after closing our doors in 2013. This video below give a good explanation of how you can use Social Media to drive traffic to your website and below that is a piece of a great post I read recently.

Take a few minutes to check out this video explanation of how to really utilize Social Media to increase website visitors.

In August of 2009 before I even knew what SEO was a customer who was a tourist in Costa Rica asked me who did our SEO. I had no idea what he was talking about because we had no website but our daily posting and interaction with our following placed us to the top of Google’s results for the query “sports bar costa rica”. This is a snippet from a recent article I read on Social Media that I thought business people can get a great lot of value from reading.

You’re on social media because, among other possible reasons, you want to drive visitors to your business website. It’s a good goal, and social media outreach is a handy technique for it. It’s all a matter of how you do it.

Social media is primarily meant to be a place for conversations and relationship building. That’s its main purpose, but that doesn’t mean it can’t bring website traffic, too.
